Happy Birthday Facebook

http://www.facebook.com/downtownprintwearHow did the little geek do it?  HOW DID HE DO IT?!  Don’t get us wrong, we love Zuck.  But really?  The dude is sitting on BILLIONS of dollars and doesn’t seem to have a clue.

On this day in 2004, Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook.  Initially the site was only available to Harvard students, but the company expanded rapidly to schools across the country and eventually opened it’s doors to anyone with an email address and the ability to figure out what birth year makes them 18.

Is it bad that we still remember typing “www.THEfacebook.com”  That must make us old school Facebook. Back when people were just figuring out how to Facebook stalk.  Imagine explaining “Life Before Facebook” to our kids?

Me: “Well Johnny, people didn’t flirt via ‘poke’ and wall messages, or make Facebook Chat booty calls. All of her favorite movies weren’t listed on Facebook so that you could pick one of her favorites and all but guarantee yourself some action.  We had to pick up the phone and call our friends to find out this information.”

Johnny: “Damn, you had it rough.  I’ve got maaaaad Facebook game!”

Stalking never looked so cool.

On This Day: Bubble Gum Day

http://inventors.about.com/od/gstartinventions/a/gum.htmThe first Friday in February is Bubble Gum Day!  Pull that piece off the bottom of the desk, from behind your ear or off the bed post.  Today is the one day each year that you have an excuse to blow bubbles in class or make obnoxious popping noises when people are talking to you.  Many schools celebrate Bubble Gum Day by allowing students to chew gum in class as long as they make a $0.50 donation to a charity predetermined by the school.  Wouldn’t you love to have Willy Wonka’s 3-course meal gum today?  Tomato soup…roast beef and a baked potato…blue pie and cream!
