On This Day: The Grand Ole Opry premiered on radio

On this day, 1927, the Grand Ole Opry first premiered on radio.  A weekly country music stage concert held in Nashville, TN, the Grand Ole Opry is one of the longest running broadcasts in history.  Membership in the Opry is considered one of country music’s highest achievements.

Notable stars include: Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Brad Paisley.  The Grand Ole Opry is broadcast at 6 pm EST on Saturday evenings on WSM-AM, Nashville.
