  • Fire destroys nearly 35,000 volumes in the Library of Congress (1851)
  • President Calvin Coolidge lights the first National Christmas Tree (1923)
  • Reginald Fessenden became the 1st person to broadcast a music program on the radio while broadcasting from Brant Rock, MA (1906)
  • The War of 1812 between the U.S. and Britain ended (1814)
  • The 1st completely solar-heated house was completed in Dover, MA
