During the Summer of 2007, recent college graduate, Benjamin Sadler, purchased used silkscreen printing equipment on Ebay and began printing t-shirts in the attic of his apartment as a hobby. Just a few months later, Ben was receiving requests from local businesses and colleges for t-shirts, sweatshirts, and a variety of other items. Downtown Custom Printwear was born. A few ink spills, lots of sweat equity, and just a year later, it was time for Ben to upgrade the operation.
The business moved to Erie Blvd in Schenectady, NY. Around that same time, DCP added embroidery equipment to complement the existing screen-printing setup. Ben began printing and embroidering everything in sight! Less than 2 years later, Downtown Printwear was bursting at the seams. In the Spring of 2010, after just 16 months in the initial production space, DCP moved upstairs to occupy a space 5 times the size of the original shop. The new shop allowed room for expansion, the opportunity to hire, and capacity to handle larger projects.
The company continued to add services over the last several years. Large format printing services allow DCP to print banners, posters, table displays, and window graphics for your business, vehicle, or trade show presentation. In the Spring of 2010, DCP started offering a selection of promotional items, including pens, mugs, koozies, stationary, and other items to promote your business, organization, or event. Adding these services helped DCP evolve into a 1-stop shop for your printing, embroidery, and marketing needs. Downtown Printwear even employs an in-house graphic designer that can help assist with the development of artwork.
Downtown Custom Printwear thrives on helping customers bring their project ideas to life. Customers report the personable, casual culture makes DCP easy to work with.
